As a queer neurodivergent therapist, Amy is passionate about making mental health care accessible, affirming, and effective. They received their MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University. Their capstone project focused on neurodiversity-affirming clinical practice with autistic adults. They have experience working with autistic, ADHD, queer, and BIPOC clients, including those with intellectual disabilities and varying communication needs.
Amy employs a strengths-based mindset, centering clients’ own strengths and interests as she finds that people learn best when they can be themselves. She loves to provide psychoeducation on nervous system regulation, neurodiversity, and trauma healing. She has a background in mindfulness and meditation practices, having studied religion and taught multiple mindfulness and yoga-based groups and courses. Amy is also a trained musician and incorporates musical and expressive interventions as needed. She regularly incorporates skills from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) into sessions, drawing on her experience facilitating a DBT skills training group.
Amy’s therapeutic approach is rooted in person-centered and child-centered theory, affirming human beings’ innate self-understanding and drive for healing. She fundamentally believes in clients’ rights to determine their own mental health care, and is always happy to adjust treatment to help each client and family increase their understanding and quality of life.
